Carlanstown Housing Development is being designed with an attenuation tank on site. Attenuation controls the flow of water as it is released back to the drainage system; this is a value added to this particular site as it has a high water table. Attenuation is valuable if tackling flooding downstream or an overwhelmed infrastructure. Attenuation consists of the temporary storage of surface water in a suitable chamber below ground level.
Adequate green spaces are allocated to the development. There are numerous health benefits associated with access to public open spaces. Access to open spaces has been associated with better perceived general health and reduced stress levels. Access to public open spaces has the potential to increase levels of physical activity and subsequently has mental health benefits.
The units on this development are being installed with Air to Water Heat Pump technology. No requirement for traditional fossil fuels e.g. coal, oil or natural gas. Because most of the heat energy supplied to your house is from a renewable source, there is a very low carbon foot print which gives a better energy rating compared to ‘traditional’ fossil fuel based heating systems. Air to water heat pump typically costs 50% to 60% less to heat your home than a traditional fossil fuel system such as an oil or gas boiler.
Because the main energy source is air, these units provide environmental, social and economic benefits while protecting public health and environment over their whole life cycle.
